The Program
We will cover Algebra 1 curiculum, so, of coarse there will be an overlap with the classroom lesson. Using the Bellak Appoach will enhance what is offered in the classroom.
Will This Program Meet My Child's Needs?
Yes, We have designed this program for a wide variety of student needs so that each student will get the most out of each lesson. These classes are best for students that:
- Need to have material explained in more detail than time allows for in the regular school classroom setting.
- Need assistance in order to succeed in their first actual high school level math course.
- Need extra support in order to prepare for a state final exam. Preparation needs to start at the begining of the course.
- Need or want shortcuts and alternative methods in order to advance in their mathematical skill level.
Why is Algebra so important?
It is the foundation for all higher level mathematics. In fact, it is required for high school graduation. Adults sometimes say that they never use Algebra, but they do daily. They may not use the x and y symbols, but they use the problem solving reasoning which is taught through Algebra content. So it is an important course for everyday life as well as for higher math.
Why Mrs. Bellak's approach?
Mrs. Bellak has the best success rate for teaching Algebra in the county. She coached the Algebra team for 25 years, and the team took 1st place in the county 17 of those 25 years. Her Algebra team placed in the top 3 positions 23 of those 25 years. No other coach has that record. High school teachers have frequently said they could pick out Mrs. Bellak’s students from the others, and one administrator nicknamed her the “Algebra Queen.”
Mrs. Bellak is currently teaching Elementary Algebra at Pasco-Hernando Community College.
Mrs. Bellak uses many unique and original explanations of the subject matter, in order to enable students to understand better. In fact, previous students have asked her to write a handbook, and they titled it Bellak’s Math Tips and Tricks.
Please see the brochure for information concerning Mrs. Bellak’s awards, mission, goals, and philosophy.
